Another exciting TEFL year has come to an end and the TEFL family has grown immensely, not only due to the number of trainees and record enrollment this past year, but also in terms of faculty and staff. We’ve really been blessed to see so many talented, dedicated students come through our program. Our partnership with Disney English has really helped a lot of trainees find employment in China, and rumor has Disney will be expanding into South America. Check out more information in our featured articles section.
We’ve made a lot of changes to the program, including bringing on more experienced ESL instructors with experience in specific fields, such as business and test preparation. We are also adding new modules to the program and are very excited for 2010.
Rich Shah
Rich is still teaching TEFL during the day and French and Korean in the evenings. He’s recently moved to Cambridge with two friends. His cat has established dominance in the apartment and chases the girls back into their rooms whenever she feels they’ve spent too much time in the common areas. Rich doesn’t address this aggressive behavior because he actually finds it quite amusing.
Robert Davis
This past year Robert (March 2005) has been mostly working in TEFL but has also been teaching a few advanced business ESL classes along with the pre-MBA program, which has been serving foreign students entering MBA programs at MIT, Columbia, Northwestern, among others. In between classes he has taken short trips to Paris, the desert and a few islands off the Massachusetts coast.

Kerianne Panos
Kerianne has had a full year teaching TEFL in the mornings, ESL in the afternoon and evenings, and Japanese on the weekends. Whenever she’s not teaching, she serves as the Institute’s primary consultant on cross-cultural issues and ESL education for organizations in the Boston area. She also loves her new apartment in Cambridge and her now much shorter commute that takes her past the Charles River every morning.
Charlie DiSilva
Charlie (May 2008) has been very busy, not only with teaching but also with the football season. He’s teaching ESL regularly at the Institute and continues to work with the TEFL program during the week. Meeting people from around the world and learning about new cultures are his favorite parts of the job. “I love teaching and I’m enjoying the best job I’ve ever had,” says Charlie. The weekends are devoted to the season tickets he and his brother share at Gillette stadium.

Mark McNeill
Mark (June 2008) joined the TEFL team as an observer at the beginning of June, and is very happy to be working in the program from where he earned his TEFL Certificate. In addition to observing the TEFLers practicing their teaching, he continues to enjoy teaching some part-time ESL classes at the Institute and other schools in Boston. Outside of the ESL world, he's hoping to finish graduate school in music by the beginning of 2010 and is looking forward to the next interesting adventure, whatever that might be.

Fiona Kerr
Fiona (Sept 2005) continues to observe teaching practice at the Institute while teach mornings at another school
Katja Davidoff
Katja continues to work the part-time program on Saturday while teaching full-time at a private school in Brookline. Her son is getting older and enjoying school.
Sue Bippus
Sue has recently switched over to working the Saturday part-time program and staying home with her daughter during the week.
Alexis Giannopoulos
After spending the summer in Japan teaching ESL, Alexis (April 2008) has returned and is pursuing her Master’s in Applied Linguistics at UMass Boston. On the weekends, she is observing trainees during their teaching practice.
Hannah Treworgy
Hannah (August 2003) gave birth to a baby boy at the end of June. She has left the Institute for now with our best wishes.
Emily Harris
Emily (May 2008) is now living a luxurious life in Paris, hopping from sidewalk café to sidewalk café and looking for English stints when coffee money starts to get low. She doesn’t know when she’ll be back but she promises to join the team again.
