“I moved to Seoul, South Korea three months ago, and I absolutely love it here. I teach about six hours a day with a maximum class size of 12, a set curriculum and paid prep time. My students are between second and fifth grade. It's a really nice job. I am taking Korean classes in the mornings, too, which is slowly helping me to understand my surroundings more thoroughly. Korea is a beautiful and interesting place, full of temples and rice fields and tea plantations and palaces and mountains and ridiculously large shopping areas. The Boston Language Institute has really helped change my life dramatically, and I am so glad to have this opportunity, and to have been so well prepared for teaching EFL through the program.”

“After teaching English in Spain for 3 years, I'm now back in Italy, my home country, where I work for a language school called Inlingua. I have been recently promoted to Director of Studies of the center. I'm quite happy with my job. Happy New Year to you all!”

“I'm currently using my TEFL Certificate and teaching at Yokohama College of Commerce in Japan through the Westgate program. I'm still learning a lot about linguistics and hoping to pick up some Japanese as well while I'm over here. This winter break I'm excited to do some traveling around Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines with a friend and former student from Korea.”
Emily Harris (May 2008)
“Even though I've stayed in Boston since finishing my TEFL course, I feel like I travel the world everyday because of the interesting and diverse people I meet in the classroom. I currently teach ESL and help with TEFL observations at BLI, but within the next year I'd love to go off to Europe for a year.”
Lauren Deeley (July 2008)
“I'm currently teaching in Costa Rica. There are a TON of TEFL jobs here -- mostly teaching business English. Most of the jobs are centered in San Jose which is, decidedly, the least beautiful part of Costa Rica but the people, climate, and access to beaches, mountains, and volcanoes make it a great place to work.”
Lauren says she would be happy to help anyone who is interested in teaching in Costa Rica. (laurendeeley@gmail.com).
Carole Freeman (April 2008)
“I've been lucky enough to have been teaching since I was certified. I work at 2 language schools in Boston and do some tutoring on my own. I love teaching and my students have given me great reviews, so I guess I'm doing it right thanks to BLI's wonderful teachers. I can't believe how fast time has gone by since I first started the course there. Grammar, which was my biggest nightmare, has now become standard teaching for me.”
Charlie DiSilva (May 2008)
“I loved my BLI experience so much I found it hard to leave! I’ve really enjoyed teaching ESL here and working with the great teachers and staff. I meet interesting people from all over the world and continue to learn every day.”

“I finished my TEFL program in 2000 and have been immersed in teaching ever since. I spent a year teaching ESL at Global Language Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota, before serving as a volunteer teacher in Guinea, West Africa, with the International Foundation for Education and Self-Help (www.ifesh.org). After two years in the Bay Area earning my K-12 certification, it was abroad again. I have been teaching ESL and French since 2004 in Morocco and Guatemala. Currently, I am in charge of developing a Pre-K through Grade 8 ESL program at a small international school in Anaco, Venezuela.”
Joy MacFarland (July 2003)
“After completing the TEFL Program, I then moved back to Spain and have been living in Madrid ever since! I am one of the directors of studies at Mosaic International Institute. We are ALWAYS looking for new teachers. The email for applicants is administration@mosaicinternationalinstitute.org and send the CVs to Maite, saying that you are graduates of The Boston Language Institute. Thank you for keeping in touch! I have wonderful memories of BLI!”
Alison Maddox (April 2008)
“I've been teaching English to children from elementary to middle school age on Jeju Island in South Korea since July 2008. I've been learning a lot about Korean language and culture since I got here, specifically as it relates to Jeju, which differs slightly from mainland Korea in its social customs and traditions. I really like it here!”

“Well, I'm working in Cartagena, Colombia as an English Teacher at a private school called La Nueva Esperanza (www.lanuevaesperanza.com). I'm teaching grade 6 (high school). If there's anyone interested in coming to Colombia, please send your CV to mvirisarri@lanuevaesperanza.com or virgy14@hotmail.com.”
Marissa Basch (May 2004)
“I graduated in ‘04 (Wow, that long ago!) and have been teaching ever since. I started an adult ESL program at one YMCA branch in New York a few years ago. I was also teaching basic literacy and GED to adults for a non-profit organization. My life took a quick turn to teaching elementary school, where I got certified to teach ESL to grades K-12, and also received my Master’s Degree. After two years doing that, I decided to finally go abroad. I am currently teaching 2nd grade ESL for a private bilingual school in Miramar, Mexico. The area is fantastic and the school has a great community, as well as Mexican and American teachers. There are opportunities at the school available regularly, so anyone who would be interested can probably look on www.spokenskills.com as well as the school's website: www.colamex.org.”
